The Minister of Information Communication Technology and National Guidance, Judith Nabakooba, has tasked the governing council, management and staff of Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology (UICT) to keep the current trends of technology through being innovative, and providing industrial related skills development aimed at preparing the country for the new industrial revolution.
She said that skills development is essential in addressing opportunities and challenges that meet new demands of changing economies and new technologies in the context of globalization.
“Skills development need to be connected to broaden growth, employment and development strategies that requires government together with social partners, build policy coherence in linking education and skills development to today’s labour market, technology and investment for future employment growth,” Nabakooba said.
She made the remarks while presiding over the 13th graduation ceremony of UICT held at UICT campus in Nakawa on 31st January 2020.
She advised the graduands to use digital technology to provide unprecedented solutions to address fundamental needs of society.
The Principal of UICT, Irene Nakiyimba called upon stakeholders to join hands to develop a digital skilling framework to address the challenges associated with access and usability of technology holistically and utilise it to improve the livelihoods of Ugandans.
She added that there is need to revamp the curriculum to have a ICT standard framework based on talent and skills from infant to higher levels.
Over 403 graduated in various disciplines in ICT and management. The graduation was held under the theme: “ICT Skilling and awareness as a precursor for e-governance”.
