Kadaga Tasks Tumukunde, Odongo To Explain Entebbe Women Murders

Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has tasked the Ministry of Internal Affairs and his security counterpart to explain the mysterious killings of women in parts of Entebbe and Nansana municipality.

So far 19 women have been gruesomely killed in the two suburbs of Wakiso district. The latest victim was identified as 28-year-old Jalia Nalule, whose body was recovered in Katabi town council yesterday.

Kadaga condemned the killings describing them as unprecedented violence against women. “It seems that the killings have the same pattern, they involve sexual violation but they also involve very brutal aftermath of inserting sticks into the women’s private parts and sometimes into their mouth,” She said.

She directed that the two ministers appear before parliament on Tuesday next week on the matter. She was addressing journalists at Parliament on Tuesday.

Kadaga said that the killings have continued to go on despite pledges that investigations were ongoing. She recounted earlier statements by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kale Kayihura indicating that masterminds of the attacks have been arrested.

She appealed to government to ensure that the constitutional rights of women to work and to freedom of movement are respected.
