Housing Finance Bank Saturday donated food items to residents of Mulimira Zone, Bukoto in Nakawa division.

At least 100 vulnerable people including the blind, young mothers, pregnant mothers, the disabled and the elderly among others benefited from the bank’s donation.

A package contained 10 kilograms of maize flour, salt, sugar, beans and soap.

“This is a small contribution from Housing Finance Bank, but means a lot to these people’s lives,” said Marietta Naiga Mwesigwa, the Housing Finance Bank Chief Risk Officer on the sidelines of the event held at Kisuule Primary School in Bukoto.

Naiga was referring to the assorted items to each of the beneficiaries.

Earlier, she commended the Rotary Club of Bukoto for allowing to partner with the bank.

“We are grateful that the Rotary Club of Bukoto was ready to partner with us. The bank sat down and noted that so many people don’t have what to drink or eat. Michael (bank’s Chief Operations Officer) directed us to the Rotary of Bukoto. The pandemic has left hundreds of Ugandans vulnerable without what to eat or drink. Housing Finance Bank is committed to participating in what benefits Ugandans. I call upon all Ugandans to continue observing the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to further contain the spread of Covid-19. We want a better Uganda. We will continue supporting this cause,” Naiga said.

Edith Mujwisa, the Rotary Club of Bukoto  President lauded Housing Finance Bank for the partnership and support to the vulnerable city dwellers.

“This will change lives. We appreciate your generous donation. Thanks for partnering with us. Your contribution has enabled us to make a significant contribution,” Mujwisa said.

Hajjati Rukia Nyombi, a resident of Mulimira zone thanked the bank for the donation.

“The needy need to be helped. People are badly off,” she said, thanking the bank: “To Housing Finance Bank, thanks for choosing us. Not that you have a lot, but thanks for sharing the little you have with us.”

Michael Opira, the bank’s Chief Operations Officer spoke as a Rotarian and the bank’s top manager.

“It’s an honor that we have found a good friend that will support our cause as a Rotarian. In rotary, we serve above self. Thanks Housing Finance Bank for supporting this cause. We really appreciate it,” Opira, a member of the Rotary Club of Bukoto said.

Speaking as COO, Opira said: “we are very honored to have got the Rotary Club of Bukoto, which we can work with to advance this cause of humanity. We are very aligned to the focus of Rotary of Bukoto. This is a partnership we will continuously grow so that we change the communities that may not be able as some of us are. We associate with what you (Rotary Club of Bukoto) do. There are communities that survive by the day. Bringing them hope is what we associate with.”

Mike Sebalu, the past President of the Rotary Club of Bukoto and District Governor while speaking at the event assured the bank of accountability and transparency during the partnership.

“Thanks, Housing Finance Bank for the gesture of goodwill to the Rotary Club of Bukoto to achieve a better community that we live in,” he said, assuring the bank, “there is no risk in working with the Rotary Club of Bukoto. In any case, you (Chief Risk Officer) will pick best practices to manage risks that you may encounter while working with other partners. We are very organized, accountable and transparent.”

He added: “Rotary of Club of Bukoto has an account with Housing Finance Bank. That’s to demonstrate how committed we are to this partnership. Rotary is being rich with the heart. People mistake it for being rich. It is not about how much a Rotarian has. Housing Finance decided to share the little they may have. Not that they are so much overwhelmed with a surplus. Not that they don’t have what to spend it on. Housing FInance may not have anyone they know in Mulimira, not even had serious engagements with Mulimira zone but the love for humanity to lead a good life. Whatever contribution you made is the reason we invited you to come and witness, and see people take the donation. It’s in the spirit of accountability and transparency. I want to request that this partnership continues so we can do more and make an impact in society. This partnership should outlive any individual involved.”
