Hot Air! 55 Presidential Pledges In Health & Works Sectors Abandoned

President Yoweri Museveni is known to make pledges especially during Presidential campaigns as a way of wooing voters to his side.

However, new released report to Parliament by the Government Assurance Committee shows that 55 presidential pledges in the health and works sectors have not been implemented.

The Committee headed by Hassan Kaps Fungaroo as Chairperson followed up 92 pledges since 2006 in the health and works sectors.

The report says that out of 65 presidential pledges in works sector, only 21 have been implemented and the remaining 38 have since been abandoned.

In the health sector, out of the 27 assurances, only seven had been fulfilled, while 17 were not implemented.

Fungroo, who is also Obongi County MP, said that some of the hospitals promised by the president for renovation like Bugiri hospital were not considered and turned out to be disease hub.

The Committee report noted that many of the presidential pledges lacked funds to be completed.

It adds that responsible ministers and ministries failed to indicate definite timeframe within which the presidential pledges are supposed to be fulfilled.
