The government of Uganda has allocated Ugx 80 billion to commence the cattle rehabilitation in Teso, Lango, and Acholi regions.
The Presidential Cattle Rehabilitation Committee handed over its report to President Museveni on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, for consideration and further action, and the program is now set to begin on December 30, 2025, with verification of the agreed-upon position of five cows per household in three regions.
The revelation was pronounced by the Vice President, Jessica Rose Alupo Epel, at a press conference at her home in Central Cell, Katakwi Town council Katakwi District.
According to Vice President Alupo, who chaired the cattle rehabilitation consultative meeting, the program is progressing.
She stated that the government has already allocated 80 billion shillings for the cattle rehabilitation exercise, and a directive has been issued to all chief administrative officers in the three regions to begin the process of identifying beneficiaries.
She stated that the livestock rehabilitation program includes the payment of five heads of cattle in conflict-affected regions, and that the verification exercise will begin on December 30th, 2025.
She noted that the cabinet has decided to invest resources in the financial year 2026/27 to ensure the program’s continued implementation.
Alupo, however, asked people in the three areas of Teso, Lango, and Acholi to have close interactions with the chief administrative officers and leaders about how the program designs in each district will be implemented.
Alupo also urged Ugandans to embrace wealth and job creation programs such as Emyooga, PDM, Women’s funds, Youth funds, Disability grants, and elderly grants, as well as affirmative action programs such as Nusaf and PRDP, which benefit disadvantaged regions affected by conflict.
