FUFA has officially launched the campaign for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cameroon.

The launch was held at the FUFA Headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, 23rd November 2019 during a special press conference addressed by the Ag. FUFA President Justus Mugisha, Vice President Darius Mugoye, Uganda Cranes Coach Johnathan McKinstry and Deputy CEO- Football Decolas Kiiza

The campaign for the first home match between Uganda Cranes and Malawi on 17th November 2019 has been code-named ‘366 Back to Namboole with Cranes’

When Uganda Cranes host Malawi at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole on 17th November 2019, it will exactly be 366 days since the Cranes played at this stadium and won that match 1-0 against Cape Verde to book a successive berth back to the AFCON.

Partick Kaddu scored the game’s solitary goal.

The campaign name has been derived from the fact that it will be exactly 366 days since the Cranes last played at  Namboole Stadium.

The campaign kicks off   with an away fixture in Ouagadougou against Burkina Faso on the 13th November 2019 before the home game on 17th November 2019 with Malawi.

FUFA to charter Bombardier (Uganda Airlines) for Uganda Cranes to Burkina Faso

Given the time span between the two games, FUFA has confirmed a chartered flight courtesy of the Uganda Airlines  to fly the Uganda Cranes and fans .

The chartered flight will depart Entebbe International Airport on 12th November for the match on 13th November and return on the 14th November 2019.

“… Today gives us another opportunity to keep writing history in Ugandan football.  The launch of the AFCON 2021 campaign shows our desire to see the Uganda Cranes keep delivering on the continent.  We know the value of this campaign. When we win we give our fans happiness. We shall give the coach Jonathan McKinstry maximum support. To ease the travel, we have chartered Uganda Airlines Bombardier  to fly the Uganda Cranes. I am urging the fans to turn up in big numbers to give us the 12th player when we host Malawi  at Namboole stadum,” said Ag FUFA President Justus Mugisha.

FUFA has financed a chartered flight for the Uganda Cranes but there are 30 seats reserved for fans who wish to travel with the team at a fee of $1500 per head  (Full board, one night accommodation and access to the stadium).

“We are now beginning the AFCON 2021 qualification campaign. I have been around three weeks now but have been able to gather some information about the players and our opponents including an international friendly match away to Ethiopia. Traveling to Ouagadougou with a chartered flight by federation is a very great move and assistance to travel to West Africa. It is expected to be a very difficult game for us but Uganda Cranes away record has improved a lot,” said Jonathan McKinstry, Uganda Cranes Head Coach.

Jonthan McKinstry, Uganda Cranes Head Coach during the press conference  when the  ‘366 Back to Namboole with Cranes’ campaign was launched. He briefed media on his technical plans.

“We thank the Government of Uganda for the continued support over time and again. Special regards to all our sponsors and partners, the media and fans. We need your support in this very campaign,” said  FUFA Vice President Darius Mugoye.

The head coach McKinstry will name the provisional team next Wednesday, 30th October 2019.
