Fallen Star Chimp Zakayo Successor Named

Uganda’s departed oldest chimpanzee’s successor has been named.  Dr. Jane Goodall, a British primatologist and anthropologist, Considered to be the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees named Zakayo II as the successor and heir to the Kazayo throne last week.

Zakayo I, who was the oldest captive Chimpanzee succumbed to Chronic Gastroenteritis, at 54 years. Zakayo II is another orphaned Chimp due to illegal wildlife trade.

Dr. Jane Goodall  visited Uganda Wildlife Education Conservation Centre (Entebbe zoo), to appreciate the rate at which the zoo has grown into a wildlife sanctuary for the orphanaged wildlife.

Dr. Jane Goodall is best known for her over 55-year study of social and family interactions of wild chimpanzees since she first went to Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania in 1960.

She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots programme, and she has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues.
