Equity Bank Turns Away Minister Tumwebaze For Not Wearing Mask

Equity Bank Uganda Limited officials have been applauded for turning away Frank Tumwebaze (pictured), the Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development after he showed up at the bank’s premises without wearing a face mask.

This was revealed by the minister himself via his official Twitter handle.

“Thanks to my bank Equity Bank for being tough with enforcing #COVID19 Uganda prevention protocols. This morning I made a mistake for which I plead guilty to & most sincerely apologize. I forgot my mask home & was bounced at the bank. I took off to pick one. Learnt my lesson!” Tumwebaze tweeted.

Tumwebaze’s apology won him applause from his over 111,000 followers who commended the Minister for the exemplary leadership and humility, prompting some of his followers to ask him to pass on the same lessons to his colleague Minister Ronald Kibuule, who was caught on camera in 2019 assaulting a female Security guard who had demanded that  he goes through security check before accessing the bank.

The development comes at the time, Government has passed a directive that will require all people in public to wear masks or face fine of Shs20,000 or jail term of six months, with the directive set to take effect on 19th May 2020.

A number of banks have also sent messages to their customers advising them to wear face masks while visiting financial institutions.
