African Queen officials receiving the company’s award
African Queen, popularly known as the No. 1 distributor, emerged as one of the most preferred companies by Ugandan consumers in annual Consumer Choice Awards held on July 29.
While speaking at the award ceremony which was held at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala, Francis Mwebesa, the minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, hailed the distinguished investors who have offered exemplary and dynamic leadership in the service of Ugandans and in nation building.
“Thank you for putting Uganda first. This award ceremony gives us the opportunity to evaluate our service to the people and reflect on the need to satisfy the respective consumers of our goods and services,” he said.
African Queen got the platinum award in the category of Distributor of Fast Moving Consumer Goods in Uganda. Charms Distribution Company came second by winning gold.
“Distribution of premium fast moving consumer goods has been at our hearts for the last twenty-nine years,” said Immaculate Mimi, African Queen’s Marketing Manager.
She said over the years, they have been committed to expanding their distribution channels to enable efficient and effective supply of goods to their customers at an affordable price.
Mimi said they work closely with multinational suppliers to ensure that they continue meeting the needs and expectations of their customers and engaging in innovation of new product lines ranging from stationery, personal care, home care, foods and beverages.
“As one of the innovative companies in Uganda today, African Queen has a clearly defined Route To Market (RTM) strategy to deliver an effective and efficient model that provides us with a competitive advantage,” says Mimi, adding that this is a key facilitator to numeric and weighted distribution – for sustainable growth of the brands they distribute.
African Queen also boasts of a highly qualified and performing human resource under the stewardship of their Managing Director, Innocent Tibayeita. “This is aimed at ensuring both our suppliers and customers are satisfied at all times.”
From the humble beginning of a cosmetic shop in Kikubo, African Queen has grown over the last 29 years to become a leading distribution company in Uganda.
They currently have nine depots located across Uganda and are planning on increasing the number with more stocking points, to ensure that their products are easily accessed by every consumer around the country.
About 42 companies were adorned with the prestigious awards that have come to symbolise the most successful and outstanding local companies – based on consumer’s preferences.
