dfcu Bank in partnership with Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and Daily Monitor has launched a new expo which will see top women business proposals win up to sh30M.

The expo is scheduled to take place on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th November, 2018 in Kampala.

Speaking at the launch event at Hotel Triangle in Kampala on Wednesday, Chairlady dfcu Women in Business (WiB), Dr. Gudula Naiga Basaza said that the expo will provide invaluable resources for Small-to-medium business owners, start-ups and entrepreneurs to share knowledge and move their businesses forward.

“… women entrepreneurs were also invited to submit business proposals for a chance to win cash prizes. The top 3 winners will be recognised and rewarded with sh15M, sh10M, sh5M at the sidelines of the expo whereas the final 10 will go on an all-expense paid study trip to Nairobi,” Basaza  said.

As part of the expo, it is expected that there will be a series of business clinics including; How to effectively sell/market products, embracing digital platforms to grow business and juggling business and family.

Victoria Byenkya, the Head of dfcu WiB said that they have done several trainings across the country with the aim of empowering women entrepreneurs.

“We set up a cell for proposals from all the women and we have received 85 and vetted the top 20 from where we will pick the top winners,” she explained.

Since the launch of initiative in July 2018, over 650 women across the country have been trained in matters of taxation, record keeping, investment licenses, importance of business registration and marketing.

This brings to 35,000 the total number of those who have benefited from the initiative since its inception in 2007.
