REVEALED: Top 10 Countries Earning Millions In Exports To Uganda

China leads the top 10 countries making millions of dollars in exports to Uganda, according to figures released by Bank of Uganda on August3, 2017.

The ranking is based on the latest month (June) in the report. In total, Uganda’s expenditure on imports stood at US$416.31m (Shs1.49 trillion) in June, down from US$ 430.81m (Shs1.55 trillion) in May.

Annually, Uganda spent US$4,325.66m (Shs15.5 trillion) on imports in 2016, down from US$4,955.39m (Shs17.8 trillion) in 2015.

This means that in the last two years, Uganda has been importing goods more than half of its budget.

According to the figures, Uganda spent US$62.44m (Shs224.7bn) on imports from China in June, slightly down from US$ 62.5m (Shs225bn) in May 2017.

Annually, Uganda spent US$727.04m (Shs2.6 trillion) on imports from China in 2016, slightly down from US$736.11m (Shs2.65 trillion) in 2015.

India

India comes 2nd in counties making money from Uganda. India made US$41.39m in June 2017, from US$67.23m in May2017.

In 2016, India made US$691.57m, from US$994.93m in 2015.

UAE

United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranks 3rd in countries making a killing from Uganda in exports.

In June, the Middle East country made US$51.45m in exports to Uganda, up from US$ 29.46m in May 2017.  Annually, UAE made US$349.43m in exports to Uganda in 2016, up from US$338.45m in 2015.

 Kenya

Uganda also imports a number of goods from Kenya.

In June, Uganda imported goods worth US$36.79m from Kenya, down from US$44.55m in May 2017.

In 2016, Uganda imported goods worth US$516.17m in 2016, down from US$619.25m in2015.

Indonesia

Indonesia also makes good money from Uganda. In June, Indonesia made US$34.64m in exports to Uganda, up from US$17.78m in May.

In 2016, Uganda imported goods worth US$159.36m from Indonesia, down from US$171.15m in 2015

Japan

Japan comes in the 6th position in countries making money in exports to Uganda. In June 2017, Japan exported goods worth US$28.53m to Uganda, down from US$47.77m in May 2017. Annually, Uganda imported goods worth US$207.87m in 2016, down from US$306.33m in 2015.

South Africa

South Africa also makes some good money in exports to Uganda.

In June, the country earned US$16.24m in exports to Uganda, up from US$15.89m in May. In 2016, South Africa exported goods worth US$183.29m to Uganda, from US$221.75m in 2015.

Saudi Arabia

In 8th position is Saudi Arabia, having earned US$16.18m in June 2017, from 17.81m in May. In 2016, Uganda imported goods worth US$207.68m        from Saudi Arabia, from US$180.71m in 2015.

Tanzania

Tanzania comes 9th among the top 10 countries making money in exports to Uganda. The East African country exported goods worth US$13.15m in June 2017, from US$17.90m in May.

In 2016, Tanzania earned US$108.21m, from US$78.52m in 2015.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

DRC concludes the top 10 countries making money in exports to Uganda. In June, DRC made US$12.30m, up from US$13.89m in May. In 2016, DRC earned US$76.95m in goods exported to Uganda, up from US$26.80m in 2015.
