Here Is Why Poor People Stay Poor

By Livingstone Mukasa

If you observe carefully, poor people have one thing in common: the ability to coin perfect excuses.

They are able to lay it out why things are not working out for them or why they were born in the wrong country. In today’s column allow me to apply some SHOCK THERAPY: Your excuses will not put food on the table neither will they better your country!

Let’s start by the excuses you give of not wake up early in the morning. “Oh it’s still very early” or “let me stretch myself a little bit” and before you know it you have slept past your allotted wake up hour.

Successful people are early to bed and early to wake up. Yes, you heard me right: NO EXCUSES. I have noticed that most people do not make progress because of making too many excuses.

You have your perfect excuses of why you are still in a rented house 20 years after graduation or why you have not started that business that has been on paper for seven and a half years. But excuses are just that; EXCUSES.

If you choose to explain every challenge, you will also explain the opportunities that come your way.

I was born in poverty and I quickly realized that it was not an excuse to stay poor forever.

In 2017, I was involved in an accident that left me able to walk but not run. A perfect excuse to get pity but wapi! I decided that if my legs won’t move fast, my head could and I now live a productive life and enjoying it too.

So next you catch yourself saying BUT… ask yourself if there is another way to skin the cat.
