NRM MPs Demand Museveni Exit In Missive

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) rebel Members of Parliament (MPs) have written to President Yoweri Museveni over plans to remove Presidential age cap of 75 years.

The rebel MPs are Theodore Ssekikubo, Monicah Amoding, Barnabas Tinkansiimire, Patrick Nsamba, Felix Okot, Sam Lyomoki, Gaffa Mbwatekamwa, John Baptist Nambeshe and Alex Ruhanda.

Here is their leaked letter:

It is appalling that Government has abdicated its cardinal mandate and responsibility over the Constitutional process by abandoning such an important process to a private member hence a vote of no confidence in Your Excellency and Cabinet.

This is not only horrendous but unacceptable. Even if a constitutional amendment was relevant, the mischief of such should be owned and backed by all NRM organs and Administrative Committees not individuals.

You halt and henceforth disassociate yourself from the ongoing divisive, opportunistic and isolationist Constitutional Amendment process since it has alienated the majority of NRM members and Ugandans.

As a matter of urgency, convene the top organs of NRM namely CEC, NEC, National Conference and Special Organs of NRM to consider and adopt a common position on lifting the age limit in the constitution.

In the alternative and without any prejudice, consider setting a planned democratic and transparent transition and succession process within NRM party and national Presidency.

Having risen to the deserved status of Father of the Nation, you owe it to the current and future generation to handover a stable and vibrant democracy. The gift you can bestow to Ugandans is a smooth transition of power.

The MPs also denied ever receiving money for consultations. They added that the money isn’t needed given the fact that Ugandans have already showed that the bill isn’t necessary.
