Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the arrest of all those implicated in fanning the land conflict involving the Acholi and Madi in Amuru and Adjumani districts.
State minister for lands, Persis Namuganza, who announced the directive says the order will not spare ministers, members of parliament and senior army accused of accelerating the tension in the region. According to Namuganza, the number of the dead is at 10 while those so far arrested for fuelling the violence are nine.
The land conflict between the Acholi and Madi communities in Apaa, Northern Uganda that broke out two weeks ago, left at least 10 people dead, scores nursing injuries in several hospitals and hundreds displaced.A number of senior political leaders on both the Acholi and Madi side have been accused of fuelling the conflict. On Wednesday, Acholi Paramount chief Rwot David Onen Acana called for the arrest of those named in the violence following claims that they were at large.
On Friday evening, President Museveni met leaders from the Acholi sub-region at State House Entebbe in a bid to find remedies to the land dispute.
Meanwhile, Namuganza still has a bone to pick with her predecessor Aidah Erios Nantaba who is now the state minister for ICT. Namuganza accuses Nantaba of fighting her using some media houses that she claims have consistently given her negative publicity.A tabloid newspaper recently carried a report quoting sources that claimed that a verbal exchange ensued at a cabinet meeting in State House, Entebbe where Namuganza was pitted against other ministers.
In March, the two ministers engaged in a public exchange during a meeting in Kampala called by the lands ministry to engage Legislators from Buganda region.
