M7 Critic Fr. Gaetano Blasts Security For Invading Parliament Chapel

Rev. Fr. Gaetano Batanyenda, the Chairperson of Kigezi Inter-Religious Council has condemned security operatives for desecrating places of worship in parliament.

Father Gaetano’s comments come only a few days after opposition members of parliament protested the presence of soldiers inside the Catholic and Anglican chapels found in the basement of parliament.

The legislators accused the security personnel of accessing the chapels through the new entrance on the East wing of parliament. The angry legislators confiscated cups and plates the officers were using to eat, saying their presence in the chapels was disrespectful.

Father Batanyenda, who doubles as the Kitanga Parish Priest in Kabale Diocese, has also joined the legislators to condemn the security officers for desecrating the chapels.

The security officers were deployed to beef security in the house and parliament discuss the report from the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee on the Constitutional Amendment bill No 2 0f 2017, which seeks to among other things to scrap the presidential age limit.
