KAWEESI MURDER: Police Yet To Arrest Three Hitmen

Uganda’s Police is still searching for three men believed to have been the actual hit-men in the murder of three police officers including Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi, loacal news agency, URN reports.

Kaweesi, his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa were gunned down on the morning of March 17 as Kaweesi left his home in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.

And now, almost three months later, the hunt is still on for the three suspected hit-men, two of whom are believed to be of close likeness to the composite sketches made immediately after the shooting. The three, according to the police, include two shooters and a motorcyclist who transported them.

A source privy to the ongoing investigations told reveals that only one of the four suspects who carried out the shooting has since been arrested.

“These guys are still on the run. Two of them resemble two of the composite sketches. The third sketch resembles the arrested suspect and we don’t have a sketch of the missing motorcycle rider,” the source who preferred anonymity said.

The only suspect arrested for having allegedly fired the shots that killed the three police officers is Aramazan Noordin Higenyi. He was arrested on the day of Kaweesi’s burial while trying to cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is what General Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police, told mourners at the burial in Kitwekyanjovu, Lwengo district, on March 21st.
