Janet M7 On The Spot For Lack of Strategic Plan

Uganda’s Members of Parliament on Tuesday questioned the country’s education ministry officials over why the ministry has been operating for two years without a strategic plan.

This emerged in a meeting between parliament’s education committee chaired by Mbale Woman MP Connie Nakayenze and the ministry officials that the sector’s strategic plan expired in 2015.

The education ministry officials were led by Ministers Janet Kataaha Museveni, John Chrysestom Muyingo for Higher Education, and that for primary education Rosemary Sseninde. Also present was Permanent Secretary Alex Kakooza as well as other technical staff.

Katakwi Woman MP Akurut Violet Adome tasked the ministry leaders who had appeared together with a number of technical staff to account for the absence of a strategic plan that is expected to guide the implementation of activities in the sector.

Without giving an explanation for the delayed strategic plan, Fredrick Matyama, the commissioner for education policy and planning told the committee that the Education and Sports Sector Strategic Plan (ESSP) 2017-2020 was being developed with the final draft expected to be ready by 1st September 2017.
