Huge bonuses, Villa’s collapse ‘hand’ Vipers third trophy

The Uganda Premier League trophy is Vipers’ to lose now.
With three games to play, Vipers are five points clear of SC Villa who lost 1-0 on Saturday against a 10-man struggling UPDF.
The venoms are 7 points better than third-placed KCCA, who however have a game in hand.
SC Villa had put up a genuine chase until they started to stumble when first they fell to Vipers before drawing 1-1 away to Mbarara City and Saturday’s catastrophic loss to UPDF.
Saturday’s loss was not only hurting but it opened old sores after head coach Wasswa Bbosa angrily said that he was being undone by club legend Paul Mutakabala.
But it’s not only about Villa’s collapse. Vipers did several things right.
Since the appointment of Eddie Butindo as technical advisor, the rifts in the camp have been mended.
But it emerged over the weekend that club proprietor had played a huge bonus game to bring in the sheaves for the two-time league winners.
According to a club insider, all players receive their bonuses from the dressing room before even kick off.
This has significantly improved their fighting spirit especially in games where they have had to come from behind and win it late.
It is understood now that all players are rewarded with huge bonuses of Shs400,000 for games involving title contenders and Shs200,000 for the other ties.
Vipers now head to tricky Kirinya Jinja SS on Tuesday with their eyes on the prize.
SC Villa will meanwhile visit Express FC who are in the relegation mix, on Wednesday.
