Government: No Pay For Public Servants Without National IDs

The Ugandan government has said public servants without National Identification Numbers (NINs) will not receive their wages beginning August, 2017.

In a letter dated August7, 2017 addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Public Service, Keith Muhakanizi, the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Treasury at Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, says in order to increase credibility of the wage and pension payrolls and ensure concomitant accountability, National Identification Numbers of all public servants should be included on pay slips.

“By copy of this letter, Accountant General should ensure that no Public Officer or Pensioner is paid salary without a National Identification Number with effect from 1st August 2017,” Muhakanizi says in a letter obtained by Business Focus.

The development comes barely two months after Public Service Ministry came up with a strict dress code for all civil servants.
