The Ugandan government has cancelled licenses of a number of labour recruitment companies for reportedly engaging in human trafficking and other illegal activities.

In a statement to the public, Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development says that pursuant to regulation 19 (c), (f) of  the Employment (Recruitment of Ugandan Migrant Workers Abroad), Regulations, 2005, licenses of companies including Sauman Services Limited, Fountain Security Services and  Abroad Placement (U) Ltd.

Further, the ministry says that pursuant to Regulation 19, 20 (1) (a) and 50 (1) (2) of the same Regulation, seven external recruitment companies have been suspended and their offices closed with immediate effect.

These include Karibum International Limited, Elite Placements Consulting Ltd, Labour Frontiers International Ltd, Rokas Recruitment Services Ltd, Fresh Mind International Ltd, Swift International Recruiters Ltd and Professional Recruitment Services.

“The public is therefore, informed to desist from dealing with the above mentioned external labour recruitment companies whose licenses have been cancelled and suspended. Whoever deals with the said companies, its agents or employees on matters of external labour recruitment and placement of Ugandan migrant workers abroad does so at his or her own risk,” the statement signed by James Ebitu on behalf of Labour Ministry Permanent Secretary reads.
