Former Boda Boda Rider Reveals How Dubai ‘Kyeyo’ Has Changed His Life

Abdul Katumba, 36, was a boda boda rider in Kampala.  He could only manage to feed his family from his tiresome job, leaving him with a number of financial issues.

He couldn’t continue with this situation lest he would die a poor man!

When opportunity knocked, he couldn’t resist grabbing it.  Two years ago, he secured a job as a Cleaning Worker at Desert Group Services in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) through Middle East Consultants Ltd (MECL).

A resident of Lugala-Masanafu, a Kampala suburb, Katumba explains more about his decision to quit boda boda riding for ‘kyeyo’ abroad.

“The conditions weren’t good when I was a boda boda rider. I wanted to change my life, the reason I went to Middle East Consultants offices in Muyenga for guidance on how to get a job abroad,” Katumba says, adding that the Muyenga based company helped him ‘very much’ to get a job in Dubai.

He says MECL advised him to work hard and be focused before leaving the country. This is what he exactly put into practice and it has benefited him.

“I worked hard. I would work for Desert Group Services in the morning and work overtime for another company in the evening,” he says.

He adds that this practice made him make some good money which he would send to his wife back home to not only take care of their children, but also build rentals which are already earning him an extra buck.

“With determination, hope and persistence, you can be successful in life,” Katumba advises the youth.

His wife, Nakalema Kizza Margret, says she couldn’t divert the money sent by the husband because they have a common goal of having a successful family.

Godfrey Kyalimpa, the Recruitment Manager at MEC thanks Katumba for being focused and a hard working man as the company always advises its clients.

“I always tell people to ensure that they acquire assets out of their sweat abroad,” Kyalimpa says, urging the youth not to sit back when there are lucrative employment opportunities abroad.

MECL gave Shs1m cash to Katumba to help him finish his rentals.
