Ecobank Targets Top 5 Positions, Launches Emerald Business Club

Ecobank Uganda has revealed plans aimed at making it rank among the top five banks in Uganda in the next three to five years.

The remarks were made by Clement Dodoo, the Ecobank Uganda Managing Director during the launch of Ecobank Emerald Business Club on Friday.

 “2018 is unique for us. Our market share is still small in Uganda because we are 10 years old, but we look forward to improving to become one of the leading banks. We want to be among the top five banks in Uganda in the next three to five years. We want to lead in the digital and alternate channels space,” Dodoo told Business Focus at the sidelines of the event, adding that in other African markets , Ecobank is either number one or two. Ecobank is a Pan-African bank operating in 36 African countries.

Dodoo re-affirmed the bank’s commitment to customers and the Ugandan market.

“We wish to re-affirm that we have been here for 10 years and are still here. Africa is our home, Africa is our strategy. You’re part of our strategy. Everything we do, we do it for the benefit of you our customers,” he told the bank’s loyal customers that attended the launch.

Why Emerald Business Club

The Club is in line with the bank’s mission and vision hinged on the economic transformation of Africa.

Speaking at the event, Annette Kihuguru, the Ecobank Uganda Executive Director said the Emerald Business Club targets local corporates, SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) and public sector customers to enable their businesses grow further and faster.

“The Club presents an opportunity for customers to connect, share and grow business ideas,” Kihuguru said, adding that the bank will offer networking seminars/ business forums and access to financial advisory and capacity building as well as provision of market research information to support customers’ businesses.

She emphasized that the seminars and forums will not only be held in Uganda, but also in other African markets where the bank has presence, a thing that will present a unique opportunity for customers to penetrate into new markets.

“We pledge to continue engaging with you our customers on a need by need basis in order to understand your business and how to effectively support it to grow at your desired speed and remain sustainable as well,” she said.

Customers under this exclusive Club will receive preferential treatment. For example, customer transactions will be fast tracked with designated tills at Forest Mall and Parliament branches.

How to join the Club

Kihuguru revealed that membership depends on customer/business profitability and turnover.

Minimum operating balance is Shs500, 000. Members will receive a unique card that will help them transact in any country among other benefits.

The Emerald Business Club is an Ecobank Group initiative that has been rolled out across its affiliates to offer seamless business banking across the African continent.

Ecobank’s flagship product for its Commercial banking customers is the Ecobank digital. This includes the Ecobank mobile and Ecobank pay solutions with a keen eye on customer convenience.
