Banking Fraternity Mourns Death Of Ecobank Legal Boss

The banking sector and the legal fraternity in Uganda are mourning the untimely death of Ecobank Uganda Ltd long serving Head Legal & Company Secretary.

Annette Mwiriza Mukunda, wife to Julius Mukunda breathed her last on Thursday in India. She was battling Cervical Cancer.

“Death has robbed us of our Company Secretary- Annette Mwiriza. Please keep her family in your prayers. May her soul Rest In Peace,” Ecobank Uganda said on twitter. The news of Mwiriza’s death was followed by an outpouring of tributes from banking sector and the legal fraternity.

Ecobank Uganda Managing Director Clement Dodo said they had lost a “a hard working and very beautiful soul.”

Uganda Law Society‏ twitted: “We Celebrate the Life of Annette Mwiriza Head Legal @EcobankUganda May her Soul Rest in Peace…”

Emmanuel Makeeri, who worked with Mwiriza at Ecobank said: “RIP Annette. You were a true friend and mentor. I was fresh from campus but your guidance helped me settle in banking effortlessly. Forever indebted.”

Primrose Kobusingye, the Communications Officer at Ecobank Uganda said: “… Maya Angelou once said that people can forget everything about you. Your style, your beauty etc. But they will never forget how you made them feel. Annette Mwiriza, you made us feel special, wanted and relevant to this world. I wish I had said this to you when you still could hear me. Rest In Peace. Forever in our hearts, we shall love you.”

According to burial arrangements, there will be a funeral mass at Namugongo Catholic Shrine today at 5pm. Burial will take place at Rwerere in Rukungiri on Monday August14, 2017.

About Annette Mwiriza Mukunda

Mwiriza has been working at Ecobank Uganda since 2008 when the bank joined the Ugandan market. Before joining Ecobank, she worked with Barclays Bank of Uganda as Legal Counsel.

At Ecobank she has been responsible for all the legal related activities including compliance and regulatory requirements.

She was also an advisor to the Board and Management on a variety of legal and financial issues. Mwiriza held an LLB (Hons) Degree from Makerere University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice, an Executive MBA from ESAMI and has been an enrolled advocate since 2002.
