Age Limit: Magyezi Wants Parliamentary Legal Committee Disbanded

Igara West MP, Raphael Magyezi, the man behind the controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill (N02) 2017 commonly referred to as age limit bill wants the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee disbanded.

The Bill seeks to amend article 102b of the constitutional so as to allow a person above 75 years of age stand for president.

Magyezi argues that some members on the Committee are biased and that he’s not likely receive a fair hearing when he appears before it.

“The members should have the intuition to say let me reserve my fears and expressions. But if you have come out in the public and you are a member of the Committee, then they should withdraw or let the Committee be reconstituted so that we have an objective Committee,” Magyezi told the press on Wednesday.

He added: “I demand that there is independence of the Committee. I demand neutrality, objectivity, non bias of the Committee.”

The Committee consists of 13 NRM MPs, six Independents while FDC and Democratic Party have two MPs each.

Although Jackson Kafuuzi is a member of the Committee, he has been excluded from it for this particular task after seconded Magyezi’s bill and motion.
