28,000 Jobs Vacant In Police

There are close to 40,000 vacant jobs in various government entities, with many unfilled posts in Uganda Police, reveals Auditor General’s Report for 2017 .

The report obtained by Business Focus indicates that a review of the approved staffing structures of seven government entities revealed a total of 38,572 vacant posts.

Vacant jobs include key staffing posts like Deputy Solicitor General, Director Civil Litigation, Principal State Attorney in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

“I also noted that the biggest shortfall in the staffing out of the seven entities was in the Uganda Police Force with a staff shortage of 28,791,” John F.S. Muwanga, the  Auditor General says in a report dated 29th December 2017 to Parliament. Uganda Police is headed by General Edward Kale Kayihura as the Inspector General of Police.

The Auditor General says that inadequate staffing affects the timely implementation of entity activities.

“It may adversely impact on the entities in the achievement of its strategic objectives,” Muwanga says in the report, adding: “I advised Accounting Officers to make concerted efforts in engaging with all stakeholders to ensure that vacant posts are filled to enable the entities adequately deliver on their mandate.”

Other government entities with many vacant posts include  Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development (Lotteries Board), Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs,  Directorate for Ethics and Integrity (DEI),   Uganda Prison Services, Judiciary and Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Industry and Fisheries.
